WINNIPEG — In response to a rapidly evolving global economic landscape, the Consular Corps
of Manitoba reaffirmed its commitment to expanding Manitoba’s international engagement at its
Annual General Meeting held today.
The Consular Corps, representing 32 nations, highlighted its role in strengthening global
connections that support trade, investment, and cultural exchange across the province.
Guest speaker Bram Strain, President and CEO of the Business Council of Manitoba, encouraged
members to enhance their relevance amid a shifting geopolitical landscape marked by supply
chain disruptions, trade diversification, and emerging international partnerships.
The event was attended by key leaders, including Loren Remillard, President and CEO of the
Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce; Alexandre Cote, Regional Director of Global Affairs Canada;
and Andre Brin of World Trade Centre Winnipeg.
Chair Philip Houde noted that over the past year, the Consular Corps Executive has engaged in
high-level discussions with municipal, provincial, and federal partners—and will continue to do so.
“While there is more work ahead, the Consular Corps is well-positioned to contribute
meaningfully to Manitoba’s global outlook,” said Houde. “We play an important role in promoting
the countries we represent and advancing opportunities that strengthen economic and cultural ties.”
He added that this commitment reflects the organization’s long-standing purpose: “Since its
founding 65 years ago, the Consular Corps has worked to foster positive international,
diplomatic, cultural, and economic relationships.”
