City of Selkirk Proclamation – Fibromuscular Dysplasia Awareness Month May 2026

WHEREAS:      the City of Selkirk has received a request from Julie Vogelsang, on behalf of the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America (FMDSA), seeking the illumination of the Selkirk Water Tower to promote awareness of Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD); and

WHEREAS:      Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) is a vascular disease that is significantly under‑diagnosed and can result in serious health complications including arterial dissections, aneurysms, stroke/TIA, hypertension, and other related conditions; and

WHEREAS:      May is recognized as Fibromuscular Dysplasia Awareness Month, and coordinated illumination of landmarks across Canada and the United States helps raise public awareness and support affected individuals; and

WHEREAS:       education and awareness are the keys to the prevention of severe outcomes; and

WHEREAS:      the mission of the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America, a not-for-profit patient advocacy organization, is working towards better diagnosis and treatment of Fibromuscular Dysplasia. This is done by building awareness of FMD, funding research activities, providing support and educating patients and the health care community.

The goal is to offer help and hope to individuals and families living with Fibromuscular Dysplasia through direct services, education and advocacy; to promote a sense of community among those affected; and to educate all Manitobans about Fibromuscular Dysplasia during the month of May.

THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that I, Larry Johannson, Mayor of the City of Selkirk, in the Province of Manitoba do hereby proclaim the month of May 2026 to be “Fibromuscular Dysplasia Awareness Month” in Selkirk and commend its thoughtful observance to all citizens.
