Manitoba Lt.-Gov. Anita Neville presented Selkirk Mayor Larry Johannson with the King Charles III Coronation Medal during a ceremony at the Manitoba Legislative Building in Winnipeg April 9.
“I couldn’t be more honoured. ,†Johannson said. “I couldn’t be more proud.â€
Johannson, who was first elected mayor of Selkirk in 2010, said it was a complete surprise when MLA for Rossmere Tracy Schmidt nominated him.
“I just couldn’t be prouder,†said Johannson. “To be a proud Manitoban…born and bread and I’ll be here until they have to carry me out feet first and they’ll do it with a medal on my chest.â€
Johannson told the St. Paul Press & Springfield Times that even though he received the medal he wished all 11,000 Selkirk residents could have received the honours as well.
“I really feel that there are a lot of people that are around me and with me as a team,†the mayor added. “I really feel I am accepting it on behalf of all Selkirkians.â€
