The Concert Series is sponsored by South Beach Casino and media sponsor Selkirk Record.

Something for everyone and always free

Ellie Longbottom, the city’s Culture Coordinator, says the concerts, which take place at the Waterfront and on Manitoba Avenue for Music on Manitoba, are something people look forward to all year.

“They’re free to attend and it provides an enjoyable evening out for families during our great summers,” Longbottom said.

“We’re always searching for great entertainment and this year we have a variety of acts representing a range of musical genres, so there’s really something for everyone.”

Peters opens up the show at the Waterfront on June 6 at 7pm with his high-energy performance of country/rock tunes. The former frontman of Past the Perimeter has earned a reputation as a hardworking, energetic and talented performer who gets crowds on their feet.

Forever & Always is up next at 8:30pm with their tribute to Canada’s Shania Twain. Lead singer Ali takes the crowd through the legendary singer’s playlist, complete with Shania-inspired costume changes. The backing band features seasoned musicians who complete the experience for fans, who find themselves dancing and singing along to all the hits. On July 18 the Waterfront will be rocking with Black Lights who take the stage at 7pm. The Winnipeg-based band covers tunes from the ‘70s to today. Their set list includes a wide-range of artists from Kansas to the Killers and The Glorious Sons to Honeymoon Suite.

In addition to the music, concertgoers can look forward to themed costume contests that encourage attendees to get into the spirit by dressing up. A Shania Twain costume theme is planned for June 6, followed by a rock-themed night on July 18, with prizes awarded to standout participants during the evening.

Music on Manitoba

On Aug. 8 the Concert Series moves over to Manitoba Avenue for Music on Manitoba.

It’s a night full of fun with kids’ activities from 6-8pm, including The Bubble Barn, Fit Kids Healthy Kids Motion Zone, and Mr. Squiggly.

Night Market on Manitoba

From 6-10pm there’s the night market in partnership with Bud & Bloom.

Christina Barr co-owns Bud & Bloom with Tennille Frost, and they’ve been putting on a night market at Music on Manitoba since 2019.

They promote local makers and their vendors include baking, jewelry, local authors, stained glass, crochet, pet bandanas, sewing, soap and more.

“At the night market this year we’ve got all kinds of vendors,” Barr said.

“We always focus on handmade things supporting local entrepreneurs.”

One vendor offers up a different kind of blind date for some unique fun.

“There’s one person who calls it Blind Date with a Book, so she finds used books and wraps them up and writes a little bit about what their theme is and people can pick a package. It’s kinda neat,” Barr said.

If you’re a local maker and you want to take part in Bud & Bloom’s night market, or any of their markets, send them an email at budandbloomcollective@gmail.com.

You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram @budandbloomcollective.

Barr says they post the dates of upcoming markets, and list and feature the vendors.

“That way they can see what to expect when they come to the market and what they want to shop for.”

The music gets going at 7pm with Irvin Miller, a 22-year-old talent who blends blues, funk, country and gospel to create his unique sound. He’s a rising talent that you won’t want to miss.
